Going in Circles?
Ever feel that all you do is run in circles, try to do 10 things at once, cut corners right and left, never stop to catch your breath, and end up exhausted & behind? We’ve all been there at some time in our life when chaos reigns. Enter Arty. Leave it to a dog to take the phrase "going in circles" and turn it into a masterclass on slowing down.
Now there’s a thought ~
We can learn so much from dogs. Unconditional love. Friendship & Companionship. Joy & Laughter. Acceptance. Willingness to learn. And today Arty is showing us how to be present. A simple focus that grounds us and opens our eyes to the good stuff right under our nose.
When you realize you're stuck in a loop, it’s tempting to just keep circling—left, right, hoping for a breakthrough. But unlike Arty, our endless spinning doesn't lead to a nice nap. It just makes us dizzy.
You gather up your courage and tell yourself, “OK, I got this!” Then it starts up again . . . you catch yourself in mid-spin. Now what? Take a quick cue from our four-legged expert and
STOP. Pause. Take a break. Eat a snack! Take a short walk. Breathe deeply. Listen to the birds outside your window. 🎶Sing a favorite song! Linger just a moment.
Before you slip back into spinning, the next thing to do is take a Step Back. Shift your perspective to a wider, higher look—the 30,000-foot view. When you zoom out, the tiny obstacles causing you to circle suddenly look much smaller, and the actual path forward becomes a whole lot clearer.
Once you’ve taken that step back, Arty’s wisdom kicks in at this point says, “flop on the rug and RESET.” Maybe for us it is our comfy chair instead of a rug, but the effect is still the same. It’s amazing how slowing down and being present can do wonders for your soul.
Take time to “Stop and smell the flowers” isn’t just a cliché. It works to keep us present and glimpse the beauty right under our nose.
“Don’t cut so many corners that you end up going in circles.” A.L.H.
